The Eubanks Conservatory of Music and Arts, Inc. was founded in 1951 by Dr. Rachel Eubanks, who served as its first president. Initially, the organization was not a non-profit. It operated solely as a corporation until it achieved non-profit status in 1968.
Based in Los Angeles, the conservatory began in modest accommodations on 47th and Figueroa Streets and expanded due to increased enrollment. At its peak, the conservatory offered Associate and Master’s degrees in music performance, composition, theory, and history. In 1968, it moved to a larger facility in the Crenshaw District and transitioned to non-profit status. Dr. Eubanks passed away on April 8, 2006, in Los Angeles, California, due to colon cancer.

Thomas Grant was her successor.
In 2016, he and Louis Lee were performing together in Las Vegas with Macy Gray. Thomas was impressed by Louis’ business acumen and his role as a band director. He then asked Louis if he would be interested in becoming the president of ECMA, to which Louis was honored to accept the position.
